Magento 1.9.3 – Changing position of the attributes of Configurable Product

I have three configurable attributes and when I change their position in catalog_product_super_attribute their position gets reverted to 0 when any change is made to the product they are for in the Magento admin.

Please advise on how to make this position change permanent.
