Helping a friend with his small business – is Magento overkill coming from WordPress?

Title –
Basically GoDaddy overstepped their bounds on an upscale call and my buddy who owns a small storefront wants to move. He’s currently on a very basic WordPress page, orders are done via email, not a lot of pomp and circumstance.
He may have been drinking too much of his own product (coffee roaster) but he want’s to do a more modern page with a cart, subscription services, etc…
I’m trying to determine if I should direct him to someone who knows WordPress and leverage their plug-in ecosystem or if magenta is worth a shot. They’re a relatively small operation but their focus is B2B sales and they’ll take B2C sales if it hits them in the face so I’m liking the idea of the integrated customer DB from that aspect.
Would likely just tell him to host on AWS using marketplace AMI for the setup but hoping someone here could lend some guidance on how to direct him to someone knowledgable on the admin/setup side of things.
