Best way to Implement WebP images?

Hi

Our store is on version Magento 2.3.5. I’m trying to reduce page load times. Currently all images are either jpg or png, and we compress them as much as possible, but still some slow load times which is largely caused by image size.

As far as I know there’s no way to upload WebP images to Magento 2, but there are some extensions which seem to allow conversion on png or jpg to WebP once uploaded. Anyone know if these actually work, or if there is an alternative method to using WebP on magento 2?

We use Porto theme
